A one-day workshop providing an overview of the principles of sustainability and equip participants for work and dialogue in their organizations.

This interactive workshop is specifically designed for those new to the field of sustainability. It will provide an overview of the principles of sustainability, and a framework for additional learning and decision-making. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the meaning and context of sustainability, and a framework for planning and taking action at the organizational and individual levels.

The workshop will include:

  • Discussions of principles of sustainability
  • Life-cycle focused exercises for products or services drawn from participant respective professional environments
  • Individual and group exercises to give participants the opportunity to engage the material of the lecture and readings

The workshop will also review several communication related topics to equip participants for work and dialogue in their organizations. These will include:

  • An overview of language and terms for discussing and expressing major sustainability frameworks and emerging issues.
  • A discussion of internal communication issues (inside organizations) and external communication issues (branding).
  • The use of indicators and metrics (both quantitative and qualitative) as not just as performance measures, but as foundations of shared understanding about organizational goals, strategy and vision.
