Mike Tuffrey, founding editor
Mike has worked in the field of corporate social responsibility since 1987. A chartered accountant by profession, Mike is founding editor of Briefing and a founding director of its publisher The Corporate Citizenship Company.
Mike's career has encompassed being a director of a leading not-for-profit agency and working in parliament as a researcher, speech writer and legislative assistant.
Mike is also active in local government, having served as a leader in an inner city London borough and as an elected member of the Greater London Council. He is currently elected to the London Assembly and serves on the London Sustainable Development Commission. His own voluntary activities include serving as national honorary treasurer of Gingerbread, the lone parent charity, and chairing the management committee of a care-in-the-community charity providing homes and work for people with a severe learning difficulty. miketuffrey@corporate-citizenship.co.uk
Mienke Retief, acting editor
After graduating in psychology from Durham University, Mienke completed a postgraduate diploma in magazine journalism at City University in London and has worked as a sub-editor and writer for a number of publications in various countries, including Whitehall & Westminster World.
Mienke has lived and worked in South Africa, Canada, the UK and the Isle of Man and has been involved in journalism and community projects throughout this time. She has also worked in events management and was responsible for the logistics of a number of international conferences. Mienke volunteers for the Starfish Greathearts Foundation UK, which supports children orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV/Aids in South Africa. Starfish partners with local organisations in South Africa and enables these organisations to become sustainable through the provision of resources and skills.
