Barclays won the Effective Stakeholder Engagement Award at the annual CAF Companies and Community Awards on December 3 and also scooped a second accolade when it was awarded the Effective Company Giving Award. Its Charity begins at home and Banking on brighter futures initiatives were recognised as leading CCI programmes. The Innovation Award was presented to the Compass Group for its involvement in the Hoxton Apprentice training restaurant.
CAF further launched the results of research into the role of stakeholder engagement in corporate community investment, which it carried out jointly with the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility at Nottingham University. The Role of Stakeholder Engagement in Corporate Community Investment considers developments in the field as well as the types, motivations for and benefits of stakeholder engagement. It concludes that there is a strengthening link between CCI and CSR strategy with CCI increasingly being embedded in business strategy and that this raises issues for debate such as how companies can balance stakeholder expectation of CCI with other business expectations. The research is based on interviews with twelve companies including GlaxoSmithKline, Boots, Anglo American and Rolls-Royce. Contact CAF 01732 520 000 www.cafonline.org
KPMG and American Express
KPMG has entered an agreement with American Express whereby whenever a KPMG employee uses their corporate card to pay for their business expenses, a portion of the money will go to KPMG’s charity of the year, currently Help the Hospices. The company hopes to raise at least £100,000 for charity through the scheme. Contact KPMG www.kpmg.com
